Ravens Call in the Distance
you hear them
but can’t see them—
you know they are there.
can feel the breeze
beneath the flapping
of their wings.
the wind softly rustles,
summer leaves crunch
as your footsteps
move slowly
down the worn path.
then—
as suddenly as the calls came
a haunting silence settles
over the landscape.
a quiet warning
etched in everything,
an ancient awareness
of danger lingering.
the ravens know when to hide.
And so do I.
