Profound Loss
This was photographed back in October 2024.

I came upon this owl
and knew immediately
her death was symbolic.
Perhaps even a premonition
of what was to come.
Kneeling down beside her, I wondered
if she had died from a broken heart,
knowing her future
and the future of so many,
would soon be in peril.
I knew my country was not OK.
It wasn’t then.
And it still isn’t.
In fact, it’s worse.
Environmentally.
Emotionally.
Job Security.
Food Security.
Shelter.
Healthcare.
Financial Stability.
Our safety at home and
abroad feels
totally compromised.
So much in chaos.
So much in ruins.
A connected society
does not allow
all these horrible things
to happen when it is
emotionally well and thriving.
Such profound loss.
Will we wake up
and find the courage
and compassion
to make this country better?
Before it’s too late?
Gawd, I hope so!
