I Grew Up With Immigrants

DV3

I am a United States citizen.
Born and raised in California.

I grew up with immigrants—
not as “aliens,”
not as strangers,
not as “others,”
but as friends,
co-workers,
fellow human beings.

I AM ANGRY.

Angry at a system
that silently, illegally
allowed migrants to work—
as long as the labor was cheap
and the profit was high.

But now, as scapegoats,
the U.S. government
is rounding them up like cattle—
calling them criminals,
sending them away
to god knows where—
all for personal, political gain.

I am incredibly sad.
I am VERY ANGRY.

This is not the country
I know and love.
This is not our democracy.
This is not how we treat
our fellow human beings.

It is my HOPE...
that we find within ourselves,
the courage,
the compassion,
and the fortitude
to stand up
for all those
who need our help.

🌿
Hope is Everything!
