Despite This Bleak Day
friends lost
the divide too deep
still I must speak
no apologies here
so sadly clear
USA demolition
without a trace
of contrition
hatred on full display
sucks breath away
panic inside
i want to hide
fly away like a crow
but no place to go
like “others”
this is home
no far-away to roam
people crammed in a cage
where is the outrage?
shame setting in
for all my country’s sins
still holding hope
finding ways to cope
these times are grim
but remember the hymn
will find the way
despite this bleak day
